NASCAR drivers and fans made a big splash on Sunday, May 20, on Lake Norman in Charlotte, N.C., at the second annual Rusty Wallace "Splash for Kids" Polaris Watercraft charity ride. Rusty Wallace, and fellow Winston cup drivers Kyle Petty and John Andretti, led scores of watercraft and NASCAR enthusiasts on the four-hour watercraft ride. Afterwards, riders topped off the afternoon mingling with Wallace at a barbecue and memorabilia auction.
"It was exciting to cruise Lake Norman on Polaris watercraft and hang out with NASCAR fans again this year," said Wallace. "The turnout was great and we raised a lot of money for Speedway Children’s Charities, a cause that Polaris and I strongly support." Wallace led the charity ride on his custom-painted, autographed Polaris Genesis i. "Polaris watercraft offers a great way for these NASCAR drivers to get off the track, to have some fun, and relax," said Ron Bills, watercraft general manager, Polaris Industries. "These guys know about quality and reliability because they race cars for a living. That’s why they ride Polaris watercraft." The participants who raised the most money for Speedway Children’s Charities, through the sale of raffle tickets, won garage and pit passes for the October 7 Winston Cup race at Lowe’s Motor Speedway in Charlotte, N.C. Pit and garage pass winners included Lewis Rogers of Charlotte, N.C., Tim Norkett of Charlotte, N.C. and Roberta Hawkins of Chester, Va. All auction and ride proceeds generated from the Rusty Wallace "Splash For Kids" ride, raffle and auction benefited Speedway Children’s Charities, a nonprofit foundation that distributes funds to charities providing emotional support, medical and social services to children in need.
