The traveling menagerie that is the 2013 Hydro-Turf National Watercross Tour got off to a quick start at the Contraband Spike and Splash in Lake Charles, LA today. There was no shortage of controversy as old rivals picked up where they left off at the end of last season. With that in mind we will look at the Pro Runabout Stock class first. Everyone knows how dramatic the finish was to the Pro Runabout Stock class during the 2012 Hydro-Turf National Watercross Tour last season in this class and the two front runners were at it again in the first moto of the season. Troy Snyder pulled the holeshot on his RIVA, Hydro-Turf Judge Motorsports Sea Doo and led until the final lap when Eric Francis made an aggressive move to the inside aboard his Dave's Auto Body, Monster Energy Kawasaki to take over the lead. He left Snyder in the water and when the spray settled both riders were docked a lap putting Michael "Sleeping with the enemy" Bellamy in first Eric Lagopoulos on his RIVA powered Sea Doo in 2nd and Dennis Mack in third with his Fly Racing Factory Yamaha. In the Pro-Am Runabout Open class James Bushell put on a clinic aboard his OptimaRacing.com BRP Sea Doo going wire to wire for the win. Behind him Abdullha Alfadhel looked good running his RIVA Racing Dean's Team Yamaha to a second place finish with Erminio Iantosca in tow on his Judge Motorsports, Hydro-Turf Sea Doo. The Pro-Am Ski GP class had Chris MacClugage get out to an early lead on his Monster Energy MACC Racing boat and though he was pressured early on by the Hydro-Turf Rockstar Energy rider Rob Flores the G.O.A.T. took the win after Flores had some boat issues and finished a distant 5th. David Redinger looked solid on his Kommander Industries, Fly, Blowsion powered Kawasaki in route to a 2nd place finish with Kody Copenhaver rounding out the top three on his Kommander Industries, Oakley boat. The freestyle world had been waiting for Daniel Martin to make the jump to the pro ranks and he did it with a bang today on his Hydro-Turf, Jet Pilot Xscream machine, putting the rest of the class on notice with is dominating performance today. Jason Stoyer and Jeremy Parr went big but they are going to have to dig a little deeper if they want to upend the Doc in tomorrow's session. We get back to the action tomorrow starting with the Pro classes which kick off at 11 am and continue until 2 pm, with amateur action to follow.
