Honda's first-ever personal watercraft was introduced almost silently, amidst rumors, a year ago. The boat, which remained unnamed, was displayed inside a roped-off area at Honda's dealer show. However, this year, Honda has fulfilled its promise with not one but two models of personal watercraft, placing themselves directly in the competition arena of the latest and greatest. Honda's new Aqua-Trax F-12 watercraft shell has been taken in two separate directions, with a 1235cc, inline, four-cylinder motor, equipped with electronic fuel injection and an automatic enricher circuit, and using dual overhead cam technology with four valves per cylinder.
The AquaTrax F-12X provides even more power with an intercooled turbocharger that pumps horsepower ratings up to 165 ponies, while the non-turbocharged version is rated at 125 horsepower. With the second-largest motor on the market and the most powerful engine to date, Honda has focused not only on performance but also on the cleanliness of this four-stroke. According to Honda, it has met both CARB's 2004 and the EPA's 2006 emission standards.
Both AquaTrax versions are 125.9 inches in length, 49.0 inches wide, and 41.7 inches tall, with the F-12X weighing 721 pounds and the F-12 weighing 33 pounds less at 688 pounds. Both models feature 16.6 gallons of fuel capacity, over 25 gallons of storage, and can seat three people. Other features include a security system, reverse, off-throttle steering capabilities, a selectable speed limiter, and a multi-function display. Honda has delivered on its promise and entered the market with a bang, introducing two powerful models of personal watercraft.
