Illinois
The best place to ride in Illinois is the Chain O' Lakes. Some lakes are flat and smooth and the river is very CHOPPY on weekends. Illinois - Northern Jeff Kuta says one of the best places to ride in Northern Illinois is on Lake Michigan. The waves are simply awesome, even on a relatively calm day. (They don't call it the windy city for nothing!) Located at Lake Shore Drive and Wilson Ave., the Chicago Park District run launching area is the mecca for PWC riders from all over Chicagoland. A day pass costs $15 or you can purchase a season permit for $110. Tom suggests aside from Lake Michigan (my personal favorite), Chain-O-Lakes (another favorite), there is a small river called the Rock River which cuts through Rockford (second largest city in IL). This river is great for the locals and offers a few places to eat and one gas fill up. Launching is free in about 6 different locations on the river. The best part about this river is, you can go for about 45 miles in spring time (one direction) on a river that has some 270 degree bends (only 30 ft wide in the tight areas) and this makes for a very thrilling ride. It is very quiet in the extreme north-west end of the river (better bring extra gas!). The most thrilling jetski ride I ever had was to ride in a club with 23 other jetskiers in a single file line up this long snaky river.
