Report: Lake Bistineau near Ringgold is located about 25 miles southeast of Shreveport Louisiana, an impoundment of 15,5000 acres, 1.15 miles wide by about 14 miles long. It is a 50% wooded lake [with cypress trees- not the classic Louisiana moss covered trees]. The lake is semi open , has wide marked channels, and quite a bit of open areas that could be considered open lakes. In some parts of the lake, mostly around Camp Joy area [Bossier Slough] there have been small platforms built into the trees that people use as sort of a base when groups use the lake that are quite neat.The water is clear - at least as clear as water gets in Louisiana. It is very popular for boating, water skiing, jet skiing, house boating, and last but not least fishing. There are many accesses\boat launches on the lake most of all require a nominal fee of about $2. There are only two places for fuel. The most popular place, the one I use, is Camp Joy. As described in the following : Taylortown Camp Joy Marina Paved Fee 10.5 miles east of Taylortown. Excellent place. At Taylortown on US 71 about 5 miles south of Bossier City, turn left [east] on La. 527, go 9 miles to "Fairview Point Rd.” turn right [south] 100 yards to first road to left, "Camp Joy Rd.” turn left go about 1.5 miles to launch. Camps, houseboat slips, dock side electricity, upstairs restaurant, downstairs bar, nice patio deck, nice fuel dock, launch fee $2. Ph. 318-987-2390. As I have traveled extensively with my jet ski in Louisiana and elsewhere Lake Bistineau is one of the finest and best places to ride and enjoy ones self at. There are practically no other places like this lake around anywhere. Shreveport is a large town with all accommodations with lots of places to go, things to do including four casino river boats making it even more worthy to visit this area.
